About the role

As a Solicitor for the TAC, you will play a critical part in ensuring appropriate management of the TAC scheme in accordance with the Transport Accident Act, for the ongoing benefit of the Victorian community.

You will manage a broad portfolio of litigated and non-litigated matters, develop a deep understanding of the business needs and provide legal advice that empowers our business clients to make strong decisions in accordance with the Transport Accident Act.  TAC Solicitors represent and advocate for the organisation in a range of matters such as no-fault disputes, VCAT applications, serious injury applications, common law and prosecutions matters.

Liaising closely with Plaintiff solicitors, Courts, medical experts, and other key stakeholders - the role involves strong relationship building skills, and a high level of influencing and negotiation. You will have the opportunity to showcase your experience in understanding and interpreting complex legislation, engage in formal litigation, and utilise alternative dispute resolution methods regularly as a Solicitor for the TAC. You will also exhibit your ability to apply analytical and strategic approaches to complex matters.

What we’re looking for

To be successful in this role you must be entitled to or hold a current practicing certificate and admitted as an Australian Lawyer. The following skills and experience are also essential for this position:

Extensive legal experience including

  • Extensive knowledge of the relevant sections of the Transport Accident Act, common law principles or relevant jurisdictions, legislation and legal precedents.
  • Extensive knowledge of the Courts and Tribunal Rules processes and procedures in all relevant jurisdictions
  • Demonstrate high degree of proficiency in managing litigation across various jurisdictions (including at VCAT, County and Supreme Courts)
  • Extensive litigation and alternative dispute resolution experience years post admission

Highly developed problem solving, time management and organisational skills

Demonstrated ability to exercise judgment, with the ability to influence, negotiate and the ability to work under demanding timeframes with changing priorities

Strong stakeholder management

Demonstrated experience in building relationships with stakeholders, including client’s the legal fraternity and medical practitioners
