Right now, we’re seeking a Solicitor – Information and Privacy who will play their part in this shared purpose, while also supporting the progress of clients and colleagues so they can achieve great things. About the role
In this role, you will manage a diverse portfolio of non-litigated and occasionally litigated matters, providing high-quality legal advice that leverages your expertise in privacy and data protection laws. Your responsibilities include developing and implementing innovative risk management strategies, ensuring compliance with key legislation while supporting the Information & Privacy Manager in promoting best practices across the organisation. This position not only enhances your legal acumen but also contributes significantly to the TAC’s mission of effective information management and risk mitigation.

About the Team
The team is structured with a Team Manager overseeing Solicitors, Information and Privacy Officers, and administrative support, fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment. Team members are encouraged to work together while also maintaining the autonomy to manage their individual workloads effectively. This balance promotes both teamwork and independence, ensuring that all voices are heard while allowing for personal accountability in achieving team goals.

What we’re looking for

  • Legal Expertise in Privacy and Information Management
    You will bring a strong understanding of the Privacy and Data Protection Act, the Health Records Act, and the Freedom of Information Act, enabling you to effectively navigate complex legal frameworks. Experience in conducting Privacy Impact Assessments is essential and experience in managing senior stakeholders is also required.  This expertise is crucial for managing sensitive matters, providing accurate legal advice, and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation.
  • Decision-Making and Risk Management
    As a key decision-maker for high-profile FOI requests, your ability to assess risks and make informed judgments will be vital. You’ll need to proactively identify potential issues, represent the TAC in tribunal matters, and respond to inquiries from the Office of the Victorian Information Commissioner, all while safeguarding the organization's interests.
  • Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement
    Building strong relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders is essential. Your role will involve working closely with various departments to provide guidance on privacy law, contribute to data projects, and deliver training, fostering a culture of compliance and awareness throughout the TAC.
